Will iMessage/WhatsApp work with an eSIM?

iMessage

Yes, there is no need to worry, you could completely use iMessage on your iOS device without any troubles.

Since iMessage operate via the Internet, you can message friends and family in other countries who have iPhones without the need for an international data plan. You don't have to have a phone number to use iMessage, instead, you can use an iCloud email address to send messages over WiFi or Mobile Data.

In case it's not working try the following steps:

  1. Go to "Settings" -> "Messages".

  2. Check if iMessage is enabled.

  4. Your email address (Apple ID) should be checked and the number should be unchecked.

Reboot your iOS device

  1. Press and hold the "Volume button" + "Side button" until the power-off slider appears.

  2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off.

  3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the "Side button" (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.

WhatsApp

Yes, you could completely use WhatsApp on your personal device without any trouble, as it doesn't need to have a phone number. The phone number is required only for one-time verification. After that, it takes only an Internet connection for WhatsApp to work so even if you remove the sim card from phone or if you change the sim card in your phone you will still be able to use WhatsApp created using your old number.
