In this article, you will learn about Saily's SMS edge notifications - text alerts that let you know when you've entered an area with very poor connectivity. You'll find out how they work, why they're sent via SMS instead of push notifications, and what to expect when you receive one.
What are Saily SMS edge notifications?
Saily SMS edge notifications are text alerts that warn you when you've entered a low-connectivity zone, an area where internet access will be barely available or drop out entirely. Previously, these alerts were sent as push notifications, but they're now delivered only via SMS. Because they arrive as text messages, they can reach you exactly when you need them most: when your connection is failing and push notifications can't get through.
Is the SMS sent to my phone number?
No. The notification is sent to your Saily eSIM, not to your personal phone number.
- Saily does not collect or require your personal phone number.
- The message is delivered directly to the eSIM active on your device.
NOTE: Because the alert goes to your eSIM rather than your phone number, your personal contact details stay private.
When will I receive one of these notifications?
You'll only receive an SMS edge notification in certain areas in Mexico with very poor connectivity.
- They are sent only when you enter a low-connectivity zone where internet access is barely available.
- These aren't routine messages so that you won't be contacted during normal use.
Do I need an internet connection to receive them?
No. This is the whole point of using SMS.
- The alerts arrive even without an internet connection.
- Because SMS doesn't depend on data or Wi-Fi, the message reaches you precisely when connectivity has dropped - which is when this information matters most.
Why does Saily use SMS instead of push notifications?
We use SMS for one reason: it's the channel most likely to reach you when your internet won't. These notifications are meant to help you stay informed at critical moments- never to send unnecessary messages. Push notifications need an internet connection to arrive, so they can fail in the exact situations where you most need to know your connectivity is about to disappear.
Can I opt out of SMS edge notifications?
Currently, you can't opt out of these notifications.
